A co-curricular organization that is designed to support the aims and objectives of the Marimba Band and Ballet Folklórico classes.

Cabinet Meetings are held Wednesdays after school in room 502.

The Righetti High School Marimba Band and Ballet Folklórico was formed in 1975 and has since done over a thousand performances for schools, community events and celebrations throughout the Central Coast. The group was created to provide a special opportunity for students to learn about, identify with, and express pride in Mexican/Latino culture.

Marimba Band A/B is a yearlong, music ensemble class, which is normally offered 5th period. Traditional and contemporary music from Latin America with an emphasis on Mexican music genres are explored. Basic music skills are recommended but not required. Contact Sr. Ricardo Gabaldón at 937-2502 x2505 or <rgabaldon@righetti.us> to schedule an audition.

Auditions are also required to join the Advanced Ballet Folklórico class. Ballet Folklórico A/B is a yearlong, advanced performing dance class within the Visual and Performing Arts Department, which is usually 7th period. Regional traditional dances from Mexico will be learned including footwork, regional styles, stage presence, choreography and historical background of Mexican folk dance and the regions from which they come. Auditions take place in the spring and students interested in auditioning should contact Ricardo Gabaldón at 937-2502 x2505 or <rgabaldon@righetti.us> for more information.

Both the Marimba Band and Ballet Folklórico normally give over 20 performances a year. Group members experience firsthand how valuable these performances are to the community. Students are provided the opportunity to showcase their talents and develop their leadership skills. Students form very strong friendships with their peers. In addition, members have an opportunity to earn a scholarship. Last year, they awarded over $10,000 to seven of their graduating seniors.

For students interested in learning to dance Mexican folk dance, we offer a Beginning and Intermediate Mexican Folk Dance class which is usually 6th period. In these classes students will learn basic steps, combinations and choreographies to prepare them for auditions for the performing group. Students should contact your Guidance Counselor to request enrollment.
